The formula for determining basic thread length on cap screws is as follows: a. For bolts or screws 6 in. and shorter - twice the diameter plus 1/4 inch. b. For bolts or screws over 6 inches long - twice the diameter plus 1/2 inch. c. When bolts or screws are too short to apply the formula the thread will be extended as close to the head as possible.
